lotsa santa nativity sets and pieces out there, but this one is a bit disorienting. is the holy family IN santa’s bag? or does santa have an nice applique of the holy family on his bag of gifts? and, what can the letters in santa be re-arranged to spell?

in the latest issue of Relevant magazine they have a good article about how to ‘reclaim’ Santa for the purposes of Christ. According to the author in the traditional story of St. Nicholas there is an image of the gospel. It was actually such a great article that my wife and I are sending it out as our Xmas card.

But yes, the American, commercialized, ‘rewards/punishment for good/bad behavior,’ Santa is much further from the purposes of the Gospel

Looks more like Santa went to Venice Beach and had the holy family airbrushed on the bag…

why is santa wearing a smashed golf ball on his head. And, is the last supper embossed on the other side?

How can it be the Holy Family? Where’s Joseph? Man, can the guy ever catch a break? they won’t even include him on a stamp.

I think the theological implications of Santa holding the nativity hostage in his bag is humorous.
