teens recommend the best books of 2007

December 30, 2007

this list of “the best young adult (YA) books of 2007″, posted by ‘not your mother’s book club’ was compiled by the suggestions of teenagers themselves. worth a look to see what teens are reading. i find it really helpful to read the occasional YA book to stay up on the kinds of things reading teens are taking in (i’ve just ordered six of the books on this list). it teaches me so much about youth culture and values.

here’s what i bought (based on nothing more than gut reaction to the description in the list!):

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Spanking Shakespeare

Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature

Unwind

Notes from the Teenage Underground

Thirteen Reasons Why

i also bought nick hornby’s new book, a young adult title (i’m very intrigued to know why nick hornby, at this point in his extremely successful career, would write a young adult novel) called “slam“. i picked it up at a bookstore the other day and am 100 pages into it right now.

Thanks for this list Marko. The “Thirteen Reasons Why” book sounds most interesting to me… and I found the “Spanking Shakespeare” title very amusing.
