monday morning update

the weekend that was: i’ve blogged all about it, so won’t go into too much detail here. but, this past weekend was the sacramento site of the national youth workers convention. and, it was the dallas site of the convencion internacional liderazgo juvenil (international youth workers convention — our spanish convention). i went to both.

where i am at the moment: sitting in my hotel room in sacramento, about to start really getting nervous about my closing general session talk, which i give in a few hours.

on my to-do list this week: i can hardly think beyond today. but, i assume this week will hold all kinds of catch-up work, post-convention.

procrastinating about: i suppose i have to go back to saying i’m procrastinating about my middle school ministry book i have to write. maybe i’ll take a couple mornings to make some progress on that this week.

book i’m in the midst of: the year of living biblically, by a.j. jacobs. wow — what a completely fun book! (i’m about 5 books behind in blog reviews, btw — maybe i can get caught up on that this week also).

music that seemed to catch my attention this past week: there’s this spanish rapper from puerto rico, a black guy with the world’s most amazing afro, who has been at a few of our spanish youth worker conventions in the last couple years. i heard him in argentina a month ago, then again in dallas this past weekend. and i picked up his cd. he’s valete, and he’s extremely good — i totally dig listening to him, even though i can’t understand the words! (i thought i’d just found him on itunes — but when i googled him, i discovered there’s a portugese hip-hop artist named valete also — different guy. so, i don’t know how to tell you to find the christian rapper called valete from the dominican; but he’s really good!).

next trip: home later today. then i have a trip to good ol’ grand rapids, with a bonus day in atlanta, next monday through wednesday.

how i’m feeling about this week: ready for some rest.

  1. Thank you so much for admitting that you procrastinate about stuff. I know that none of us want to do that, and we all work not to, but it happens, and it’s encouraging to know that even presidents do stuff like that.

  2. I’m glad you are reading the A.J. Jacobs book. I thought it was fantastic. Very funny, but also gave me a ton to think about as far as “why” I’m doing the things I’m doing.

Hopefully I will run into you in Pitt or Nashville.

  3. About the spanish rapper I think he’s from Puerto Rico. I found some info at Valettepuntocom (in Youtube)

  4. leslie — that’s weird! the CD says “valete” (one “t”); but that’s definitely him on youtube, with two t’s: http://www.youtube.com/user/VALETTEPUNTOCOM

also funny. “punto, of course, means (among other things), dot, as in “dot com”. but valette.com is a website for a french maker of pates. ha!

my bad – he is from puerto rico, not the dominican.
