loony dook (a.k.a. polar bear plunge)

according to this wikipedia article, The name “Loony dook” is a combination of “Loony” (short for “lunatic”) and dook, a Lowland Scots term meaning “dunk”. which is why my friend andy jack, an amazing life-long middle school pastor, who happens to be of scottish descent, refuses to call it a polar bear plunge. and it’s why andy wore a kilt for the loony dook at his middle school winter retreat in lake geneva, wisconsin; and asked me to wear a kilt also.

by the time i got back to my room, all of my fingers were gray from the last knuckle to the tip. ah, but as a collector of experiences, i have another story to tell…
