dan kimball has written an excellent, thoughtful (and LONG) post on the role of apologetics in contemporary culture. it’s well worth reading. thanks, dan. contrary to what my sparring partners at stand to reason and the a-team blog might assume about me, i agree with what dan says.
That’s great! It’s nice to hear an affirmation of apologetics done well.
I’ve read Dan’s blog…and I like it but it makes me nervous. I mean, the way “the church” has done apologetics almost sets our youth up for “failure”. 10 proofs for this, 45,000 manuscripts for that, and anyone who believes in evolution is crazy.
I don’t know that we’re ready to be as honest as our kids want us to be…they see through our modernistic approaches to “facts”, “proofs”, etc. I do see the need for some of this…but it still makes me nervous.
