christian music cheese, part 3

alas, the videos for parts 1 and 2 of this series are now offline (they were the most current of the batch, and i’m guessing someone wasn’t exactly happy about their rampage through the viral video world). so, we move on to part 3…

a bunch of my friends (mark riddle, mike king, nate severson, and others) have been posting videos their finding of christian music cheese from the 70s, 80s and 90s (please, lord, i hope they’re all at least that old, and we can have — at the least — that little excuse). it’s some horrendously funny stuff.

so i thought i’d pull together a little series with some of these babies. this third installment might be the all-time best of this series (which is why it’s had a good amount of blog play in the past week or so): jesus is my friend. yes — deep theology, with a tease of a ska beat.

  1. I saw parts 1 & 2 before they went viral and they were downright scary. The Way International apparently didn’t like the negative publicity over their creative expression, or they didn’t feel they were worthy of being seen again. Thus they were pulled.

You can see a downloaded version of one of the forbidden videos at ransom dot wordpress dot com. Click the link in posting “It was fun while it lasted.” It has to be seen to be believed. Shhhhhhh, don’t tell anyone ;)

  2. Oh, yes! That is getting added to tonite’s set list fo’ sure! I especially love the “zap you anyway he can” line. lol.

  3. Has anybody made it all the way to the end of the song. I think I made it have way through and then couldn’t take it anymore.

  4. I am frightened. It gets shown here some youth get a hold of this they will think it’s so retro and what to perform it exactly as it is. I just shook my head and laughed a lot.

  5. ok i have to keep going.
that guy’s orange guitar looks plastic, and that bass is older than your mom.
the guy with the plastic guitar looks like he wants to jam harder, but just isnt sure if Jesus would allow it.

  6. two things:
    1) Why is she sitting at a grand piano, but playing a keyboard?
2)I have been physically unable to watch any of these to the end.
    3) I’m affraid that in 10 years a lot of current CCM won’t look much better…

  7. If you didn’t tough it out to verse three, you missed out on this deeply disturbing lyric:

Once I tried to run. I tried to run and hide,
but Jesus came and found me and he touched me down inside

It hurt me to laugh that hard.
