we have three job openings at ys these days, which is extremely rare. and they’re all such critical roles. two are in our marketing department, and one is in a new department we’re calling e-commerce and web development.

we’re working with an agency to find good candidates, but i’ll tell ya, my preference would be to find some volunteer youth worker who is passionate about what we do, and also happens to have the skills and experience we need for these roles.

marketing coordinator
position range: $27 – $43K
hiring range: $27 – $34K
reports to: marketing manager

overview of responsibilities:
• Contribute to the corporate environment by participating in YS’s missional attitude toward youth workers and youth ministry.
• Gain knowledge of the constantly changing field of youth ministry and those that serve in it.
• Assist in executing strategic marketing plans to achieve corporate objectives regarding revenue, profitability, and market share for both events and publishing.
• Help establish and maintain consistent branding throughout creation of exceptional copywriting and development of promotional materials.
• Maintain Youth Specialties database: direct product buyer master file and events master file.
• Execute marketing strategies and tactics for YS events and services.
• Provides marketing manager with post event reports/data and regular status reports on marketing programs/events.
• Track, collate, and maintain inventory of marketing materials.
• Coordinate advertising schedules and placement.
• Contribute to execution of direct marketing, eCommerce, and internet strategies and tactics.
• Provide sales operational support to marketing manager/customer service.
• Assist with event product sales areas including product mix, pricing, sales forecasts, merchandising, promotions, and related collateral.

marketing manager
position range: $35 – $56K

overview of responsibilities:
• Contribute to the corporate environment by participating in YS’s missional attitude toward youth workers and youth ministry.
• Gain knowledge of the constantly changing field of youth ministry and those that serve in it.
• Establish strategic marketing plans to achieve corporate objectives regarding revenue, profitability, and market share for both events and publishing.
• Create and execute tactics such as advertising, electronic media, direct mail, catalogs, promotions, and websites.
• Establish and maintain consistent branding throughout creation of exceptional copywriting and development of promotional materials.
• Manage the budget for each event or product campaign, analyze marketing programs, and adjusts strategy and tactics to increase effectiveness.
• Oversee the execution of product direct marketing and sales, eCommerce, and internet strategies and execution.
• Work to optimize online sales and customer loyalty/acquisition programs and develop new online functionality, templates, special offers, and online creative.
• Oversee CRM programs, shopping engines, affiliate marketing, search marketing, SEO, online sales forecasting, tracking and analysis, and ancillary products up-sells (e.g., media content sales, a la carte and subscription, accessories, etc.).
• Oversee the maintenance of Youth Specialties customer databases.
• Plan and conduct market research to identify opportunities for increased sales. Review analysis of marketing surveys on current and new marketing concepts in order to recommend future development.
• Manage and develop marketing department personnel. Direct supervisory responsibilities of the marketing coordinator. Manage and work with contractors/freelancers.

director of e-commerce and web development
position range: $55 – $89K
hiring range: $55 – $72K
reports to: president

overview of responsibilities:
• Contribute to the corporate environment by participating in YS’s missional attitude toward youth workers and youth ministry.
• Gain knowledge of the constantly changing field of youth ministry and those that serve in it
• Leadership of all Web Marketing/ E-Commerce for Youth Specialties
• Must be strategic and hands on, have the ability to be responsible for all Youth Specialties websites
• In charge of developing and maintaining the online store, including products, publications, and events
• Responsible for working closely with Director of Marketing to plan integrated marketing campaigns, and then implement the web version of the campaign
• Design, create, implement online marketing efforts including emails, online newsletters, campaigns and other web 2.0- type content as well as e-learning programs
• Ability to direct design and content
• Understand web marketing, search engine marketing, SEO, and web analytics
• Manage 2-3 direct reports
• Some travel to headquarters in Michigan, as well as 1 or 2 events a year required

  1. Drat! I just quit my youth ministry job at a church in Indiana to pursue a career in web design… I absolutely love YS! Any chance you could hold off on that last job another 2 years ’til I’m done with school?!?!?!
