the horrible, terrible, good-for-nothing george bush holiday card

dave palmer is right: this article in the washington post could have just as easily been in the onion! conservative christians, who only weeks ago were buddying up to bush in the supreme court justice nominee process, are slamming him for sending a ‘holiday’ card rather than a christmas card, and are saying it’s clear he’s lost his focus.

ok. um. whether or not bush has lost his focus has pretty much NOTHING to do with the fact that his christmas cards, paid for by the RNC and sent to 1.4 million people (of all faiths), say holiday or christmas.

my favorite (really not the right word, but it made me laugh) paragraph:

Then along comes a generic season’s greeting from the White House, paid for by the Republican National Committee. The cover art is also secular, if not humanist: It shows the presidential pets — two dogs and a cat — frolicking on a snowy White House lawn.

  1. Perhaps the author of the article is just mad he didn’t get one? I mean, I would love one from the president, any president!

  2. Because, you know, Jesus would have organized boycotts and slammed Caesar in The Daily Jerusalem had He gotten a card not recognizing His birthday even though it’s not the real day He was born.

  3. My favorite part was –

Religious conservatives are miffed because they have been pressuring stores to advertise Christmas sales rather than “holiday specials” and urging schools to let students out for Christmas vacation rather than for “winter break

–Because there’s no stinkin way I’m letting “holiday specials” sneak by…not on my watch! … … how sad that this is how so many people get to see Christians.

  4. Wait, what’s so humanist about pets in the snow? Are they saying we have to burn out pets now? What did they want, a red-white and blue nativity scene with conveniently white Mary, Joseph and Jesus?

I’m glad the President sent out a card wishing a happy holiday to all, not just the Christmas celebrators. Good for him or whoever it is that sends it for him :)
