tonight is our annual youth specialties staff christmas party. it’s our night to laugh our heads off, celebrate god’s goodness and the joy of our calling, and be a bit crazy as a team. in the past several years, we’ve had a “wild kingdom” party at the zoo, a dinner cruise on the san diego bay, a fun dinner party in the scripps aquarium (it was a bit odd to eat fish while sitting in front of a giant aquarium), a roaring 20s party, and many others.

tonite? it’s the ‘youth specialties high school christmas prom’. yeah, it’s silly — but we don’t care. there are always secretive elements to our parties, so i can’t reveal everything here at this point, but our staff DO know that there will be two costume competitions: one for best ‘prom-themed’ outfit (i’m hoping someone comes as the main character from the movie ‘carrie’!), and another for best prom formal-wear, with preference given to those who come in prom formal wear from their year of high school graduation (hoping for some powder blue tuxes). and we’re having a ‘prom talent show’, which will consist of various ys staff performing what will surely be wonderfully hilarious bits of oddity that have nothing to do with talent. but there are prizes.

maybe i can report more tomorrow or next week. i have lots of prep work to do today!
